The world’s top cross-country skiers met up in Gatineau for the opening event of Ski Tour Canada 2016 on Mar.1
Stage 1. In the heart of Winterlude, the Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau provided a spectacular setting for sprints with the Parliament Hill and the Canadian Museum of History in the background!
Stage 2 was at Parc du Mont-Royal (George Etienne Cartier Monument), the oldest skiing site in Canada dating back to 1879, right in the heart of Quebec’s largest city. It was at this same place that the legendary Montreal Ski Club was founded.
Stage 3 and 4. Back inside the historic walls of Old Quebec, the site of 2 immensely successful sprint events in 2012, athletes are back for a race course in the heart the National Capital with the start and finish lines on the Plaines of Abraham and a stretch that takes in Québec’s Parliament Building, Fontaine de Tourny, and Porte Saint-Louis.
Stages 5-8 at Canmore. The Canmore Nordic Centre is a world-class nordic venue with over 60 kilometres of impeccably groomed trails and the largest snowmaking system in North America. As the former host of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games Nordic competitions, this venue was the heart of the charming host town of Canmore.
