Ellis Hazen Ellis Hazen’s association with skiing began in 1939 when, as a physical education teacher in Sudbury, Ontario, he timed a cross-country ski race. Following the race, his students persuaded him to include skiing as part of the school’s Physical Education program. From that time forward, he worked tirelessly to promoting the sport of skiing among young people particularly in the schools.
Jack Sasseville Jack Sasseville has seen cross-country skiing from many angles. As an athlete, national team coach and television commentator. He is one of those self-reliant men, who does not flinch at a challenge, and is truly passionate about the sport he loves.
Herman “Jackrabbit” Smith-Johannsen A Norwegian immigrant who lived to 111, helped transform the Laurentians into the cross-country skiing haven it is today and in recognition his nickname is used in the name of Canada’s youth, skill development program, the Jackrabbit Ski League.
