Loppets originated in Europe and are very popular long distance mass start ski events. One of the more famous is the Swedish Vasaloppet that attracts 15,000 competitors over a 2 day period, with the longest distance 90km.
World Loppet Circuit. In 1978 a World Loppet organization formed, consisting of close to 20 races on 4 continents.
